16〜17世紀ロンドン書籍商組合関係文献及び17世紀饗宴局関係資料を収集し、併せて英国ルネサンス演劇の統制に関する2編の論考、「英国ルネサンス演劇と出版統制」と「饗宴局長と後期英国ルネサンス演劇の検閲・認可」とを執筆した。前者は、ロンドン書籍商組合が認可された16世紀中葉から、饗宴局長が戯曲出版の検閲を開始する17世紀初頭までの戯曲の出版統制を、他のジャンルの著作との比較において論じている。本稿の特色は、英国ルネサンス演劇の出版統制が16世紀末から次第に厳しさを増していく経緯を書籍商組合登記簿の分析を通して実証的に跡づけている点にある。本稿中に提示した、出版戯曲の登記率・公式出版認可官登記率に関する表は、英国ルネサンス演劇の出版統制の変遷を統計的に裏づける資料である。第2の論考「饗宴局長と後期英国ルネサンス演劇の検閲・認可」は、1606-10年の劇上演および出版の検閲・認可に関するRichard Duttonの仮説に対する反論であるが、後期英国ルネサンス演劇の統制に係わる次の2点について論じている。第1、饗宴局長(Master of the Revels)Edmund TilneyからGeorge Bucへの職務継承はどのように行われたか。第2、戯曲出版の検閲は経済的利益を検閲官にもたらしたか。第1の点に関しては、Tilneyの饗宴局長在任期間中にBucは局長代理として戯曲の上演と出版の検閲を行っていたという通説を補強する論を展開し、第2に関しては、戯曲出版の認可権は饗宴局長に大きな経済的利益をもたらさなかったと指摘した。

This paper collects the literature on the relationship between booksellers in the 16th and 17th centuries and the data on the relationship between the 17th century and the 17th century, and discusses the two parts of the British production and performance control,"The British production and performance publishing control" and "The director of the banquet and the review and approval of the British production and performance in the later period."
