Observation of gamma-rays in 10GeV region with SUBARU telescope

We are now constructing a new camera to look for gamma-rays emitted by high energy astrophysical objects such as pulsars and active galactic nuclei, using atmospheric Cherenkov technique. It is to be mounted on the prime focus of the Subaru telescope which has just been built by National Astronomical Observatory of Japan on Mt. Mauna Kea in Hawaii. Its high altitude (4000m a.s.l.) and large-diameter light collector enbale us to observe gamma-rays in the 10 GeV region which has been out of reach by the ground-based observatories. The new camera will be installed somtime during the exploratory phase of the Subaru telescope beforre nomal scientific observation, since Cherenkov observation does not require fine image quality.
