本会議のプログラムを企画するため、本年度は2回の会議を持った。1回目は平成8年7月29日(月)、東京農工大学にて行われ、日本側が考えているシンポジウム内容は11題であり、同年9月6日まで開催される第29回無脊椎動物病理学会例会(SIP)の折、日本から出席する飯塚、国見らがSIPの役員ならびにシンポジウム外国側キーパーソンと打ち合わせをすることが了解された。2回目の会議は、10月9日(水)、東京農工大学にて行われ、SIPに出席した飯塚らから外国のキーパーソンとの打ち合わせ等が報告された後、11題のシンポジウムならびに2〜3題の全体会議(Plenary session)の具体的テーマについての検討が行われた。本年度は、これら2回の会議を持って、本国際会議を成功させるためには、今日的課題、例えば「遺伝子組換え作物の現状」といった全体会議が必要なこと、また、外国のキーパーソンとE-mail、Fax.等で、頻繁な意見交換を行いつつ話題提供者の決定を行っていく必要が論じられた。平成9年SIP例会はカナダ・バンフで開かれるため、それまでに会議全体の案内を作ることならびにプログラムの内容などの具体的提案を行う必要があることが確認された。
