集団の中の人間関係において、従来、受動的行動として取り扱われてきた同調行動を、本研究では、人間が対人関係を円滑にするため能動的に選択する主体的な行動(能動的同調と呼ぶ)として捉えた。平成8年度は、比較文化的研究として、イギリスと日本での能動的同調についての調査を行った。その結果を踏まえて、平成9年度は、このような対人関係方略のメカニズムをしらべるため、集団心理実験装置を用いて小集団実験を行った。そして、意見対立の中で人が、あえて能動的同調を行う条件を調べた。さて、能動的同調は対人関係を重視して選択される行動であるので、周りの集団や他者の意見の変化に応じて生じると考えた。そこで、集団内の他者の意見が時間的に変化していくパターンを2条件設定し、能動的同調の出現率を調べた。5人集団の中の自分以外の4人が徐々に意見を一致させていく実験操作を行う。その一致パターンに一貫性があり、この先の集団意見が一致していく方向が予測される条件、2)他者4人の動きに一貫性がないため、集団意見の一致していく方向が予測されにくい条件。被害者54名。5人1集団。コンピュータによるクラッチフィールド型実験装置。その結果、自分以外の他者の意見の一致からくる社会的圧力が同じであるにも関わらず、集団意見が一致していく方向が予測されやすい1)の条件では、2)の条件より能動的同調が早くから始まることが見られた。
