研究目的:本研究の目的は、進展しつつある少子化をふまえ、九州地域の保育園児と高齢者との交流について訪問調査を行い、高齢者の有す豊かな文化を次世代に継承し、子どもと高齢者との交流を1つの軸として、地域の活性化促進に資することにある。研究計画:九州の高齢者デイサービス併設保育園18ヶ所を訪問調査し、高齢者デイサービス事業併設、合築後の保育園児と高齢者の交流調査により地域における育児と介護のあり方について、その将来的可能性を展望する。研究成果:我々が本研究を構想した際には、若年人口が減少し、定員割れの保育園に高齢者のデイサービスセンターを併設し、施設の再利用を目指すことであった。今回、調査研究を実施する過程で、複合施設による世代間の交流が当事者相互に与えあう効果を確認することができた。先行研究において、施設の合築、あるいは同敷地に建物を併設する複合型施設の利点として、土地の有効利用、建設費、管理、運営費の節減、効率的サービスの供与があげられている。今回、園児と高齢者の交流により、虚弱高齢者の心身に活力をもたらし、園児には高齢者の包容力、経験、文化に共感、理解をうながしている。このことは、年齢、知識、経験など立場の異なった人々が複合することで、相互に与えあう状況を誘発させるのが、福祉の視点を持った複合施設の新しい機能である。今後、この新機能を少子化地域にくみ入れ、地域の活性化に連結することが望まれる。
