家族における財産の所有及び管理意識等の実態に関する調査を、性別、年齢、既婚・未婚、職業等の属性を勘案し、放送大学の学生を中心に実施し、899人分の有効回答が得られた。調査結果の概要は次の通りである。第1に、婚姻前に取得した財産については、別産と考える者、共有と考える者はそれぞれ44.0%、48.8%であり、ほぼ半々であるが、婚姻後に取得した財産については、この率は12.7%、81.6%であり、民法上の理念と意識との間にギャプがあるものと考えられる。第2に、財産の内、宅地と建物の登記実態については、約60%が夫名義の登記であるが、その希望については、夫婦の共有または分割登記とすべきであるとするものが約50%であり、今後、共有登記が増加するものと考えられる。第3に、専業主婦の家庭における生活費と財産の管理実態については、生活費は妻、財産は夫、生活費、財産ともに妻、生活費、財産ともに共同管理とする者はそれぞれ31.3%、23.3%、33.9%であるが、共働きの家庭では、「両者は各人の月給から所定の金額を家計に出し合い、これで家族の共通的な生活費をまかない、残りは各自の生活費あるいは財産として夫婦別々に管理する」とする者、生活費、財産ともに共同管理とする者はそれぞれ24.8%、45.3%であり、この質問項目を見る限り、共働きの家庭において、財産の個計化現象が緩やかに進行しているものと考えられる。
