本研究は、静岡県の農山村、志太郡岡部町朝比奈地域において1982年(第1回調査)と1993年(第2回調査)に、同一対象者324人の中高年既婚女性を対象として実施したパネル調査と、本年度9月に実施した事例調査を基に、11年間に生じた家族周期段階の移行が調査対象者の老後意識にどのような影響を及ぼしたかを明らかにした。本研究の結果、次のような知見を得た。1.本調査対象者の1982〜1993年における家族周期段階の移行パターンは、「回帰」型、「停滞」型、「逸脱」型、「教育・排出期」型、「82年回帰」型の5つに類型化される。2.「82年回帰」型は「長男の嫁」に対する介護期待がきわめて高く、「体が丈夫な時」「不自由になった時」のいずれにおいても経済的自立意識は最も低い。3.「回帰」型は「体が丈夫な時」では経済的自立意識が高く、「不自由になった時」の経済的自立意識も「82年回帰」型より高い。また、「子供」に対する介護期待はきわめて高いが、そのうち25%は「長男の嫁」以外の者の世話を希望している。4.「停滞」型は後継者の結婚難、すなわち嫁不足に直面しているにもかかわらず、「長男との一貫同居」「生活の共同性が高い同居形態」を望む者が多い。また、経済的自立意識が低く、長男の嫁に対する介護期待も最も強固である。こうした「停滞」型の意識は後継者の結婚をより一層難しくしている。5.「逸脱」型は、「教育・排出期」型とともに伝統的意識からの離脱が顕著であり、「一貫同居」「長男同居」「不自由になった時の世話は子供にしてもらいたい」などの伝統的意識をもつ者が最も少なく、不自由になった時の経済的自立意識が高い。6.「教育・排出期」型は「既婚子との同居形態」における世代間の分離を希望する者が多く、「長男の嫁」に対する介護期待が低い。そして、「夫に先立たれ、子供とも一緒に暮らせない時」には「一人で暮らす」ことを希望する者が過半数に達している。
