前年度までに申請者らは北部信越・上越地域の北ドブ湿原(長野県カヤノ平),茶屋池湿原(長野県飯山市),沼の原湿原(新潟県斑尾山)で調査を行い,最終氷期以降の連続した湿原堆積物を採取した.それぞれの湿原堆積物について堆積物の放射性炭素年代測定,テフラの同定,花粉分析を行ない,その結果,最終氷期から完新世への移行期に特徴的な環境変化の磁気が存在することが明らかになった.この環境変化は花粉分析結果にカバノキ属花粉の断続的増加として顕著に現される.これは日本海側の多雪化が段階的に進行したという従来の説を支持する.これらの成果をもとに,本年度は長野県信濃町古海と長野県長野市飯網大谷地湿原で堆積物調査を行なった.古海は小規模な山間盆地に形成された湿原で現在は水田として利用されている.飯網大谷地湿原は飯網山南斜面の中腹緩斜面に形成された湿原で観光道路に隣接し周辺には大座法師池などの池が点在する.2地点のボーリング調査によって得られた堆積物については,テフラの検出,年代測定,花粉分析を行った.テフラについては,古海の堆積物から明瞭な降下テフラが数枚検出された.テフラの層位,鉱物組成,屈折率測定結果から妙高火山起源のテフラの可能性が高い.堆積物の年代は測定依頼中であるが,前年度までの調査・分析の結果と対照すると堆積物基底の年代は最終氷期のさかのぼるものと考えられる.花粉分析については,堆積物下部では最終氷期の寒冷期を示す針葉樹類の花粉が検出されている.また,新たな成果としてカバノキ属花粉の粒径計測からこの花粉化石が山地帯性か亜高山帯性(亜寒帯性)かを判別できることが明らかになり,約1.3万年前の最終氷期末以降の温暖化開始から,約1.1万年頃の短期間の寒冷化の時期にかけて認められるカバノキ属花粉の変動をもとに,最終氷期以降の日本海側の多雪化について詳細な資料を得ることができた.

Pollen analysis shows that the pollen of conifers is detected in the lower part of the deposit during the final and cold periods. The new results show that the pollen size measurement of the genus Pollen is different from that of the mountain zone (cold zone), and the pollen movement of the genus Pollen is different from that of the mountain zone (cold zone). About 13,000 years ago, at the end of the final period, the temperature began to decrease and warm, and about 11,000 years ago, at the end of the short-term period of cooling, the pollen movement was different. The final date is due to fall of snow on the sea side of Japan.
