The main objectives of this study were 1) to curry out a social survey on Japanese Americans on the west coast of U.S.A.in the cross-national comparative framework and 2) to provide the data sets of cross-national comparative surveys which we have carried out over several decades in order to open to public in the world.During 1999 Fall and 1999 Spring, we conducted the survey at King County in Seattle and Santa Clara County in California, using the same guestionaire. The samples were randomly chosen (statistical random sampling) from the list of Japanese names (the registered voter list). The effective sample size was 344.The survey result was compared to those of Japanese American surveys in Brazil and Hawaii as well as in other nations. Our Analysis have shown that the interpersonal relationships and religious attitudes of Japanese Americans are close to Japanese in Japan and some transition may be seen between the 1-ssei, 2-sei, and the higher generations of Japanese Americans.As for the data-sets, we have prepared some cross-national comparative data sets to open public on the computer internet system. We hope that these will facilitate the mutual understudying of national in the world.
