The main objective of this research is to develop the practical methodology for the cross-national comparison of national character. After our Specially Promoted Research projectn (1986-91) "the international comparative research on national character", we reviewed the results of the previous studies on cross-national social surveys.In this project, we reorganized it, including new survey data of Italy and the Netherlands, so we have made the final report on the surveys in the 7 nations. In addition, we have summarized the main procedure of cross-national social survey as a handbook, so many people can obtain the necessary information in order to conduct a social survey in the cross-national context.

本研究的主要目的是发展国民性跨国比较的实用方法。在我们的特促研究项目（1986-91）“国民性的国际比较研究”之后，我们回顾了以往跨国社会调查的研究成果。在这个项目中，我们重新整理了它，包括意大利和荷兰的新调查数据，所以我们对7个国家的调查做了最终的报告。此外，我们将跨国社会调查的主要程序总结为一本手册，使许多人可以获得必要的信息，以便在跨国背景下进行社会调查。
