集計結果(量的データ)の説明モデルとしては、人口と社会分化(集団数と集団規模)という集計レベルの制約を所与として、その量的制約が、社会関係の取り結びに関する個人選択と規範的作用との関係をどのように条件付けるか、を説明する確率的組合せモデルを開発した。これは平成8年度奨励研究(A)(筆者代表)からの展開である。さらに、社会関係が次々と展開(ないし消滅)していくようなダイナミックなネットワーク形成の側面を取り込むべく、拡張を試みているが、今回の成果としてまとめるには至らなかった。質的資料(質的データ)としては、大学生を対象とした家庭内役割イメージに関する自由記述式の調査データを多角的に分析する中で、質的データの社会学的解読性を高めるいくつかの工夫を試みた。第一の工夫は記述内容のコウディング法である。具体的には記述内容の類似性による分類、役割の性的な非対称性に留意した記述内容のジェンダー性分類、文章の構文や人称に着目した分類等を試み、性別分業意識との関係でそれぞれが異なる意味側面を引き出すことを確認した。第二の工夫は分析方法としてのブール代数アプローチの適用である。これにより、役割イメージのどのような内容が性別分業意識を規定するかの論理関係を析出した他、ブール代数によって役割をフォーマルに定式化し、そのモデルにもとづいて操作化された役割共有度の指標から性別分業意識の賛否が分かれる論点を引き出した。この研究については数名の研究協力者の協力を得ることができ、ある程度まとまった形になったので、研究成果報告書として公表した。
