本年度は、Margeryの崇拝対象としてThe Bookの中で重要な位置を占めるSt Katherine of Alexandriaについて、Sarum式典礼におけるKatharineの扱いと15世紀の写本、Exeter Cathedral Library,3549 G,Horae B.V.M.1ff. 1-36v Hours of BVM of the use of (Sarum)のKatherine崇拝とを比較検討した。成果の一部は'Veneration of Saints in Margery Kempe's Meditation : Influence of the Sarum Liturgy and Hagiography' in Writing Religious Women : Female Spiritual and Textual Practices,(Cardiff : Unive.of Wales Press,2000)[in press]として発表する。二年間に亘る本研究で、構成上の一貫性が欠如していると指摘されているMargeryの黙想の流れを再考した。その結果、The Bookの中心的テーマであるキリストの生誕、受難、及び霊的婚姻の黙想がマリア崇敬、Virgin Saints崇拝を軸に展開し、The Bookが一貫した構造をもっていることが判明し、黙想がMargeryの霊的成長の鍵であることを確認した。
