第2年目の本年度は以下のことをおこなった。1. 昨年度に引き続き、東京、関西、九州の各地域で、イスラム近代建築関係の史料収集を実施した。日本においてはイスラム伝統的建造物、都市に関する研究者や研究成果は存在しているものの、近代建築関係は皆無に近い。2. 本年度の海外調査は、エジプト、イランの二つの国で実施した。エジプトに関しては、カイロのアメリカン・ユニバーシティやカイロ大学を中心に、エジプト近代建築の研究が始まっている。エジプトにおける西洋建築の影響、近代的建築学の導入-19世紀末のフランスの影響、そしてそれ以後のイギリス建築の流入など-は、日本ときわめて似ている。さらに19世紀末から20世紀初頭にかけて富裕層の住宅が多数作られた。また、イランではテヘランとイスファファンを訪れ、現地調査と研究者との交流をおこなった。3. 2年間、トルコ、エジプト、イランについて近代建築の遺産調査の可能性を探った。量、質の点で、以上三カ国はいずれも甲乙つけがたい。ただ、社会状況、研究の進展状況からみて、今後実際に遺産調査を実施する場合、カイロ、イスタンブール、アンカラ、テヘランの順でおこなうのが妥当だと考える。
