1 平成10年6月に学習院女子大学で打ち合わせ会を行ない、国際共同研究のための国内準備会を設立するとともに、今後の活動方針について議論した。ここでは、同年4月に埼玉大学・京都大学で開催された国際研究集会「ジョルダーノ・ブルーノとルネサンス思想」 (国外から7名の参加)の成果をふまえて、とくに16世紀のヨーロッパ思想を中心に、比較文化・比較思想的な観点から国際共同研究をする必要性を確認した。2 8月と11月に、研究分担者2名を、それぞれイタリア国立ルネサンス研究所(フェレンツェ)およびバルセロナ大学等に派遣し、当該の課題に関して専門的な研究者(ヌッチョ・オルディネ教授、ミゲル・グラナダ教授など)からレヴューを受けた。そこでは、イタリアおよびスペインにおける研究情況について情報を得るとともに、平成12年に日本において、国外からの研究者を招いて国際研究集会を開催する可能性が論じられた。3 12月に同志社大学において、研究代表者・分担者以外の研究者多数を交えて、上述のレヴューの報告会および研究打ち合わせ会を行なった。ここでは、他方面の分野の研究者から意見をうかがい、今後、具体的に国際研究を実現するための、内容面と組織面の両方にわたる問題を議論した。この議論を踏まえ、準備委員会は平成12年に、国外の研究者を招き、「ルネサンスの自然観」(仮題)をテーマとする国際研究集会を開催のために引き続き活動することが決定された。4 日本におけるルネサンス思想研究の包括的な文献目録を作成するため、コンピュータにデータの入力作業を行ない、基本的な文献については作業を終えた。既存入力分については、内外の研究者に公開する予定である。
