This Project aims to create dielectric antennas for high-frequency terahertz sources, i.e., resonant tunnelling diodes. Motivated by their end-use, the Project expects to deliver high-efficiency, high-gain low-profile cavity antennas for free-space operation and Yagi-Uda couplers for guided-mode operation. Silicon will be a key material for both types of terahertz structures to achieve highest efficiency. Effective medium theory will enable performance, functionality, and integrability, while maintaining structural simplicity for cost benefits. The expected outcomes will replace decades-old costly hyper-hemispherical lenses for future terahertz systems in fixed wireless backbone beyond 5G and short-range see-through radar and imaging.
