Various knowledge and results were obtained on generation and expression of the image of "defeated persons" in the medieval literature, the historical facts and steps to the medieval literature, and the change of the image of "defeated persons" during the two-year research.Two new documents are worth noting among the many literature collected during the research : five letters written by Sairen (whose originals are missing, but whose pictures are possessed by Historio graphical Institute at the University of Tokyo) and "Okinoin" of Kusemai (which was discovered during the survey in Okinoshima Island). Both documents are very important in analyzing the history and literature of the "defeated persons". We wrote papers as indicated on their reprinting, introduction and evaluation.In addition, We wrote the following papers as indicated by the lists. There are three main ones : (1) on the takeoff process that how Heike Monogatari won a reputation by narrating Shogyo-mujo of the "defeated persons" based on the Waka history : (2) on the change of Gotobain, who lived just before Heike Monogatari as a "defeated person", in Chokusenshu, which shows formal historical recognition of the era : (3) A consideration on Heike Monogatari from the viewpoint of history with assimilation of Waka in Nagatobon of Heike Monogatari. Furthermore, I focused on "retirement" of people defeated by wars. Based on these analyses, We could illuminate several aspects on the transition of the culture and historical consciousness towards the literature on the "defeated persons".
