The aim of this study was to develop the health education curriculum for "fostering the child's attitude toward valuing life" in the modern society where various problems have arisen concerning children's mental health.The first investigation (an interview investigation of kindergarten teachers / nursery caregivers) found out that a child's kindness begins to grow in early infancy. They value learning the workings of life through the experience of the natural environment and family member's deaths, and they value a close relationship within the family.The second investigation (a questionnaire investigation of kindergarten teachers / nursery caregivers) found out that they have a relationship with children which holds "being alive" more valuable than "birth" or "death" through the experience of rapport with nature, and they have the relationship with parents which is characterized by the acceptance and reassurance of parents.The third investigation of parents discovered that they are co … More ncerned about their children and value a close relationship between the child and life. They are much interested in "birth" and "death", and feel the difficulty in conveying the ambiguous notion "importance of life" to the children in infancy. They have anxiety and distress about bad influences from the environment and social trends, however, they try to teach about life and death, and they value the existence of the child and contrive to foster thoughtfulness and morality.The fourth investigation conducted for school nurses this year found out that schoolchildren have difficulty in controlling their emotions and cannot express their feelings. They have strong self-condemnation and cannot have good relationships with others. While the school nurses regard the method of child-rearing and family communication as the causes, they fling themselves into the approach which values each child and the relationship with the family.The findings above suggested that when we nurses as a profession concerned with health problems foster a child's attitude toward valuing life, it is important to nurture a sound view of life, to support the parents who have anxiety in child-rearing, and to promote health education for children and parents.Finally, by using these findings, an educational curriculum was made from the point of view of how an educational approach can be performed by the nursing profession.
