项目摘要

研究調査グループ(前田耕作、松枝到、中村忠男、村山和之)は、平成11年度現地調査をパキスタン国バローチスターン州において、同年8月19日から37日間におよぶ日程で実施した。本調査の目的は、平成8年から9年度にかけて同地域内に対して実施した民俗・宗教学的図像の研究調査の結果、追調査の必要性を再認識した未踏地であるハーラーンおよびマクラーン諸地域の踏査にあった。ハーラーン地方は、バローチスターンの中央部に位置しながら、砂漠と山脈に他のバローチ民族居住地との交渉を絶たれた陸の孤島としてアフガニスタンやペルシア文化の影響を色濃く残す、独自のバローチ文化が花咲いた土地である。地元のバローチスターン大学から協力者としてA.ラザック・サービル博士を迎え入れた我々は、州都クエッタから陸路で旧ハーラーン藩王国の都邑ハーラーン・カラートに入り、そこを拠点に3日間にわたり、酷暑のなか、周辺の荒野に散在する都市遺跡や古墓、民俗芸能の調査を行うことができた。マクラーン地方においては、北部のパンジグール地区から南下するコースで陸路を移動し、アラビア海沿岸を、イラン国境の漁村ジーワーニーから東に向けて出発し、地域調査と交流を重ねながら、パキスタン海軍基地のあるオルマーラまで走破した後カラチに戻った。行政支庁のあるトゥルバット、港町グワーダルそしてパスニーの計三カ所を除けば、全ての訪問地が調査を残した処女地である。なかでも、2年がかりで調査準備を続けようやく実現した、パスニーの南東40kmの洋上に浮かぶ無人島ハフトラール(アストラ島)における調査が本地区においては最大の目的であった。イスラーム民間信仰の聖地として、またヒンドゥーにとっては最西端の巡礼地として機能してきたこの島を対象とした調査は、国の内外を問わず世界史上初めてである。その点からも、多くの新資料・情報を得た本調査のもつ学術的意義は大きいと言える。
