多摩ニュータウン開発についての<歴史的分析>を行い,開発による多摩ニュータウンの変遷について考察を行った。その過程で,研究論文・資料を整理し<データベース化>を試みた。webを活用して,広く研究者・市民が利用できるよう提供している。現状分析としては,多摩ニュータウン住民を対象とした,「多摩ニュータウン住民の生活行動と情報行動に関する調査」(2001年11月〜12月)を実施した。詳細は報告書に譲るが,(1)賃貸,分譲,戸建てと居住形態により階層化が進行していること。(2)多摩に住むのは住みやすいと感じている反面、かなり大きな不満を持っている階層と多摩は住みにくいと感じているが多摩に対して非常に満足していることを持っている階層の二極分化が存在する。(3)衛星放送に加入し、ケーブルテレビにも加入している人はパソコンを持っていてインターネットを多く利用していた。衛星放送、ケーブルテレビに加入していない人はパソコンをあまり持っておらず、インターネットも利用していなかった。ネット利用と新しいマスメディア利用との相関関係がみられ,いわゆるデジタルディバイド問題の存在が明らかになった。近年多摩ニュータウンではさまざまなNPO団体が設立し,多様な市民活動が繰り広げられている。その一つの特徴としてネットの活用が指摘されが,ネットを使った新しい市民活動の事例としては,多摩ニュータウンの地域通貨団体「COMO倶楽部」の活動を取り上げ,その活動の実態を分析した。
