ソーシャル・サポートのストレス緩和効果を検討するため、共同研究者の萩原らは信号検出分析法(以下SDAと略称)を用いた、ソーシャル・サポートによるストレス緩和効果の検討を提唱した。この方法は種種の優れた特徴を持つが、分析方法としては探索的である。そこで、目的変数や説明変数をすべて連続変数で把握し、従来の方法(重回帰分析、分散分析)とSDAによる方法を比較し、SDAの長所と短所を確定させる必要がある。そこで本年度は、ホワイト・カラー従業員の集団を対象に、ストレッサー、ストレス反応、職場場におけるソーシャル・サポートといった関係変数をすべて連続変数で評価したデータを基に、連続変数のままで確認的方法による解析(回帰分析)、および、離散変量に変換後に行うSDA、の両解析を試み、両解析結果を比較し、両手法の差異や長短を検討した。またSDAによる解析や結果を評価する際の注意点や問題点も検討した。その結果、特にSDAの問題点は見当たらなかった。寧ろ、探索的な方法であるSDAと従来型の確認的方法(回帰分析や分散分析)を併用することにより、従来の確認的方法のみでは解明し得なかった、複数のストレッサーのストレス反応を惹起させる重畳的な交絡を解明することが出来た。その意味で、本研究を通じ、本方法(SDA)の有用性が明らかになったと考えている。更に、原因が重畳的に交絡して結果を発生させる場合に、広くSDAを用いて解析することの一般的な有用性を検討するため、ホワイト・カラー従業員の集団を対象に、生活習慣、ストレッサー、勤務状況、を説明変数に、肥満を目的変数にとり、結果発生にいたるプロセスを解析した。その結果、結果発生に到る原因要因の重畳的な交絡プロセスが解明でき、ここでもSDAの有用性が明らかになったと考えている。
