项目摘要

前年度の研究を基に英文モノグラフの草稿作成を主とし、新たに下記のトピックを研究した。1.明治30年代小説が前景化した「社会」「家庭」とそれをめぐるドラマを国民国家生成に関連づけ、そこに固有の主体形成に関わる物語として分析した。近代文学史的枠を外し、尾崎紅葉、広津柳浪、川上眉山等、代表的文壇作家の小説を同じメディア空間に現れた、徳富蘆花、菊地幽芳、村井弦斎等の非文壇的「流行」小説と対比し、関連づけた。特に、弦斎の『日之出島』、蘆花の『黒潮』に注目した。2.20年代「美文」と近代紀行文成立との関係を、表象としての「自然」の生成過程として考察した。さらに、30年代の蘆花、子規の写生文との関連を探った。背景に明治初頭以来の近代地理学的知の移入、『日本風景論』に至る国粋保存的地政学言説の勃興、そして近代的「地誌」の「民俗誌」への変成という歴史過程がある。この背景も含めて「日本」というトポスがいかに形成され機能したかを考察した。『自然と人生』等の詩的自然風物誌に対象化された「自然」、そして同時代小説で他者として表象される「地方」はこの「日本」を共通の背景として生成する。3.出版資本の発達に伴う想像の共同体の成立は、知のパラダイム転換として理解されているが、文学がナショナリズムに関わるいま一つ重要な様式は、声、物語の共有に基づく情念の共同体の形成である。大衆小説の原型とされる講談落語そして歴史小説における、「実録物」的物語の再説話化は、活字化されても、声の共同体の記憶をひきずっており、そのことで大衆的道徳感情に訴える。明治20年代に勃興する新派劇、浪花節は、このメカニズムを内包しており、講談落語の速記出版、歴史小説の流行とも相関関係にある。この視角から、村上浪六、村井弦斎等の大衆歴史小説に焦点を当て、近世的世俗道徳理念を国民国家の情緒的共同性のエトスとして転位させる説話構造を探った。
