项目摘要

本年度は、古代ギリシア医学の倫理的側面に注目し、当時のギリシア哲学思想との連携において、「生命」や「自然」がどのような倫理的観点から捉えられていたのかを、ヒポクラテスの『誓い』を中心とする医学テキストの検討を通じて明らかにした。その研究成果を、「安楽死問題とヒポクラテスの『誓い』」というタイトルで、京都大学文学研究科21世紀COEプログラム「グローバル化時代の多元的人文学の拠点形成」22研究会[「規範性と多元性の歴史的諸相(canone)」]において2003年12月に発表し、同タイトルの論文を『京都大学古代哲学研究室紀要』13号において掲載した。その研究内容は、現代の諸問題との繋がりを考慮して、「安楽死」という生命倫理学の主要なテーマの一つに即して考察している。最初に文献学的研究に基づき、『誓い』の伝承問題を確認し、『誓い』と他のヒポクラテス派の医学文書との関連について検討を加えた。一般に『誓い』の倫理観は、ピュタゴラス派との密接な思想的結びつきが指摘されてきたが、本研究ではこのような解釈の立場に対して疑問を呈し、むしろヒポクラテス派の医学思想のなかで培われてきた「自然」把握に深く根付いた倫理観にこそ注目すべきであることを強調した。そして、多くの解釈者たちによって安楽死禁止と見なされてきた『誓い』の一節について考察し、安易にその用語を適用すべきではないことを踏まえつつも、実際に死の決定の問題はギリシア医学においてどのように捉えられているのか、そして『誓い』の倫理観は生命第一主義の立場とはどのような点で異なっているのかという問題をヒポクラテス文書における技術論と対比しつつ論じた。ヒポクラテス医学には、身体の自然(ピュシス)に基づいて判断するという原点に医者が立ち返り、医の領分を明確にすべきとする倫理的態度がみられる。この点を踏まえて、現代医療における安楽死問題に対して、『誓い』の倫理観がどのような示唆を持っているかをも考察した。
