平成15年度は平成14年度に引き続き、ベトナム北部紅河デルタの調査村ドンホー村に住み込み、約10ヶ月間にわたる長期フィールドワークを実施した。ドンホー村では村人と生活を共にしながら、1.デンと称される宗教施設を拠点とする女性達の信仰活動、2.家庭儀礼のひとつである忌日祭祀(日本の法事に相当する)、の調査をおこなった。なお、調査期間中は、ベトナム民間文化研究院に研究員として所属した。1.ドンホー村には、ディンDinhとデンDenと称される2つの宗教施設がある。ディンには村の守護神が祀られており、主に男性の信仰活動の場となっている。他方で、デンいはかつての王朝に功のあったとされる女神が祀られ、女性の信仰活動の場となっている。わたしは、前年度に実施した村人のライフヒストリー収集の結果、抗仏戦争、抗米戦争と長く続いた戦争のなかで、デンを中心とする女性達の信仰活動が、戦争に取られた男性にかわって家庭や村を守り、また生産活動の主力として活躍した彼女達の精神的な支えとなってきたことがわかった。また、村内での観察から、現在のデンは、安産や病気治療を祈願する信仰活動の場であるほかに、若い女性達が家庭の問題を経験豊かな年配の女性に相談する場、女性達が定期的に集まって家庭や村の情報を交換する場となるなど、村落社会生活において重要な役割を担っていることが明らかになった。そこで、本研究の課題であるベトナム村落社会史を構成する一部として、デンをめぐる女性達の活動の理解が重要であると判断し、次のような調査をおこなった。1)女性達の集団について、現在の組織構成、役員の選出方法や任期、活動経費やその出所等の聞き取り、(2)デンおよび女性達の集団の歴史についての聞き取り、(3)デンにおける1年間を通じた活動への参加とビデオ撮影、(4)女性がデンに通いはじめる理由や経緯の聞き取り、である。2.忌日祭祀の調査は、前年度の調査を継続しつつ、忌日祭祀の実態を裏付ける資料の1つとして、祭祀の運営単位である各父系親族集団の現在の成員を中心とする系譜関係を聞き取り、系譜図を作成した。
