1.クマーリラ著『シュローカ・ヴァールッティカ』「文論題」の分析は、古典インド哲学文献における文に関わる言語論・意味論の解明をめざす本研究課題の中核をなす。本年度は、未公刊の注釈書『カーシカー注』を参照しつつ、写本に基づいた批判的校訂テキスト・訳注作成を完了し、議論分析をおこなった。その成果が、クマーリラの文意論の全体像解明を試みた論考「<期待>と文意構造-クマーリラの文意論-」(裏面参照)である。2.古代インドの言語論は、パーニニ文法学派と聖典解釈学派を中心に展開しており、その発展過程を明らかにするためには、両学派の関係を考慮しなければならない。五世紀の文法学者バルトリハリは、文についての考察を全面的に展開し、独自の言語哲学を構築している。「文は無部分である」という彼の主張は、文を語や音素といった要素の集合ととらえる聖典解釈学派の見解と鋭く対立するものであり、クマーリラは、「文論題」において、入念にバルトリハリ批判をおこなっている。論考「言語の分節化と類似性-バルトリハリとクマーリラ-」(裏面参照)は、いまだ未解明な部分の多い、この二人の思想家の関係を、文意論の枠内において明らかにしょうという試みである。3.文意論史の淵源を明らかにするために、文法学者パタンジャリ著『マハー・バーシュヤ』、聖典解釈学者シャバラ・スヴァーミン著『シャーバラ・バーシュヤ』における関連議論の分析をおこなった。これらの著作は、日常言語分析、あるいは聖典解釈についての個別的・土着的な議論の集成という性格を持っており、そのなかから、文に関する理論的思惟を抽出することが、前提作業となった。加えて、『プラカラナ・パンチカー』など、後代の諸哲学文献をも参照することにより、文意認識論が整備・体系化される九世紀までの文意論の展開に思想史的展望を与えることができた。
