今年度は、8代将軍徳川吉宗の時代に生まれた御側御用取次の分析を中心に研究を行った。これについては、「徳川吉宗大御所時代にみる加納久通-本丸御側御用取次から大御所様附若年寄へ-」を発表した。本論文では、「吉宗公御一代記」(国立公文書館内閣文庫所蔵)や「酒井忠恭日記」(東京大学史料編纂所所蔵)を中心に分析し、吉宗政権期を通して御側御用取次を務めた加納久通の、吉宗大御所時代の位置と役割を明らかにした。久通の大御所様附若年寄就任は、就任時に、大御所様附御側御用取次小笠原政登と申し合わせながらこれまで通りの職務を行うよう指示されるという特殊なものであった。加えて、就任の目的こそ、吉宗の本丸政治への介入の手段であったものの、吉宗・久通の病気により、結果として、御側御用取次としてのこれまでのような職務権限を認めつつも職務の量が軽減されることとなり、高齢の久通への配慮による位置となったことを解明した。また、5代将軍綱吉政権期の側用人についても、「酒井忠挙の「譜代」意識-綱吉政権における家格をめぐる動向から-」を発表した。本論文は、柳沢吉保の大名との関わりについて、側近内部の研究に止めることなく、幕臣全体や政治状況全般といった、より広い視野から考察したものである。具体的には、「御老中方窺之留」「重朗日記抜粋」(前橋市立図書館所蔵マイクロフィルムを使用)および「朝林」(名古屋市蓬左文庫所蔵)の分析から、譜代門閥酒井家の綱吉政権期における位置付けや、老中と忠挙双方の家格に対する意識を検討していくなかで、柳沢の幕政における位置や、大名に対して果たした役割を明らかにすることができた。
