项目摘要

本年度は、研究期間3ヵ年のうちの最終年であり、昨年、一昨年に行りた文献サーヴェイ、史料渉猟を踏まえて、本格的な分析を行った。一昨年からデータベース化を進めてきた救貧法委員会の1834年報告書の分析結果を、「19世紀イングランド農業における女性の就業-1834年救貧法報告書の分析-」として、社会経済史学会関東部会にて報告した。そこでは、近年その重要性が強調されている地域的な分析は、ナショナルな分析よりは地域的特殊性を把握できるが、その地域内の多様性を捨象してしまうために、より小さな地理的単位(教区)を観察単位とすることが必要とされると主張した。こうした方法論に基づいて、教区における農業のあり方および女性の就業機会と男女の賃金水準との相関を分析したところ、1)教区における農業のあり方を穀作的か牧畜的かにわけると、前者においてのほうが女性の賃金が低い、2)穀作教区においては、女性の賃金水準は、男性の賃金水準とは正の、男性の失業率とは負の相関が見られるが、牧畜教区においては、この関係は見られない、3)穀作教区においては、女性の工業的就業機会の有無は女性の賃金に影響を与えず、牧畜教区においては、女性の農業的就業機会の有無は女性賃金に影響を与えない、の三点が明らかとなった。これまで3ヵ年のイングランド農業における労働需給に関する分析結果は、現在、'Agriculture, Gender, and Rural Labour Market'というタイトルで研究論文として執筆中である。
