ロシアのハバロフスク州立郷土誌博物館などでアムール中・下流域出土の新石器時代後期〜初期鉄器時代の出土遺物を現地で二度にわたり観察と記録をした。アムール下流域とサハリンの文化群が従来いわれていたよりさらに緊密に結びついていることを知った。また,青銅器時代の遺物で文化要素として重要な位置を占めるとみられる遺物が収蔵品のなかにあることを知り,それらについては適切な分析をほどこしてから順次発表していく。ロシア現地での調査において多くの現地研究者と議論をかわし,日本・モスクワ・ノボシビルスクなどでは報告されていない研究の存在を知り,観察記録作業のほかに可能なかぎり情報収集をおこなった。また,昨年度に調査したニコラエフスク空港I遺跡出土資料の整理を同時におこなった。遺物類のデータ整理はおわり,来年度に成果を論文として発表する。続縄文期の北海道における北方系産物の現地調査を土器資料の徹底したデータ収集によって全道規模で実施した。利尻町立博物館・常呂町埋蔵文化財センター・釧路市文化財センター・えりも町郷土資料館・北海道埋蔵文化財センターなどにおいて出土遺物を観察・記録した。その成果として,本州側とはことなるロシア極東地域の様相により近い広範囲にまたがった対外交渉が続縄文期初頭の北海道に存在していたことが土器型式のつながり方のまとめから想定された。北海道内におけるこのような状況は縄文時代晩期にもあったことが判明した。それについては2002年度中に論文発表し,いわゆる続縄文文化の成立背景の説明にとって重要な問題であることもわかった。紀元前1000年紀以降の北日本とロシア極東地域における各文化範囲の認定・確定作業は以上の調査のなかでその都度おこなってきた。広範囲で未調査地域が多いため荒削りであることは否めないが,2002年度に発表した論文のなかでいくつかの見解をしめした。
