We have proposed the novel method of analyses on radioactive waste by means of laser and developed the apparatus to achieve the methodology. The following apparatus are developed. (1) The quadruple linear ion trap is developed. The ions that is generated by pulsed laser ablation are successfully trapped. (2) It is necessary to irradiate 397nm ultraviolet cw laser light to cool the ions. The bow-tie cavity with nonlinear crystal outside the laser was designed and developed. The stable ultraviolet light with enough power is obtained. (3) The wavelength, 866nm of the repumping laser (diode laser system) was stabilized with two methods, which used the modulation of the grating and the etalon, respectively. The better stabilization was performed with the modulation of the etalon. (4) Galvano spectroscopy was performed to obtain the absolute wavelengths of the resonance. The wavelengths of each laser system was controlled and obtained the resonance wavelengths. (5) The total system was built to perform laser cooling and the laser induced fluorescence was observed. With more efficient detection system, the laser cooling and single ion detection would be possible.
