The main outcomes of this research projects are as follows.(1) Prof. TAKAHASHI, the head investigator, organized and steered "Anglo-Japanese Academy Workshop for Young Social Scientists, 4-6 September 2001 and Conference on National, Regional and Global Transition : A Common Agenda for Anglo-Japanese Relations in the Twenty-first Century, 7-8 September 2001" held in UK. Associate Prof. IOKIBA and Mr. YASUI, Research Fellow of JSPS, also participated in these workshop and conference. These workshop and conference highlighted the diversity of opinions about globalization. The content is shown by the attached proceedings of these workshop and conference.(2) Immediately after these workshop and conference the horrific terror happened on September 11, 2001. Not only these French Elections but also the German General Election in September 2002 revealed that the hidden issue of both elections was how to respond the challenge of globalization, in particular how to recast the political economy of both countries. In addition, YASUI translated the midterm report of the Basic Value Commission of German Social Democratic Party. This report shows that key issue is globalization and that globalization penetrates into all policy fields as well as all units of governance. The neglected field of globalization study is leadership. Although it is argued that the classical mode of leadership has been changed, the missing link is what is the classical leadership.
