本研究は,大正自由教育期に様々に展開された総合的社会認識教科の授業改革を,具体的な資料の発掘と分析にもとづいて明らかにしようとするものである。今年度は,主な研究対象を昨年度に引き続いて,当時の修身科の中で展開された総合的社会認識教育実践に据えて研究を進めた。また,今年度は,修身科における総合的社会認識教育実践の考察に関連する形で,当時の歴史教育についての資料収集と検討も実施した。戦前の教育を振り返るときに,一般的にもっとも問題視されているのは,修身科である。しかし,本研究での資料収集とその分析によれば,授業レベルにおいて当時の実践者たちは,制約をうけながらも修身科の授業の中で,様々な社会認識育成の試みを展開させていたことが確認できた。修身のような既存教科内での社会認識育成の試みは,当時多様に開発された総合的社会認識教科の実践につながる動向である。このような動きは,修身科だけでなく地理科でも,すでに確認されている。そこで,更に,当時の日本歴史科(国史科)の実践においても,修身科や地理科で確認されたような社会認識育成の試みが見られるかを,考察の対象において,資料収集と検討を進めた。今年度は,昨年度に収集した修身科の中で実践された社会認識教育関係の資料と,今年度収集を実施した歴史科関係の資料をもとにして,授業に焦点を絞った考察を行った。そして,平成14年10月6日に開催された全国社会科教育学会第51回全国研究大会(広島大学大学院教育学研究科)において,分析結果の一部を「大正自由教育期における歴史授業改革-初等教育段階の場合-」との主題で発表を行った。また,本研究で取り扱う諸資料は,ほぼ100年近い年月の経過のために保存状態が思わしくないものが,ほとんどである。そのため,少量ではあるが,電子的な保存の試みも実施した。
