本研究の目的は、畿内近国における近世地域社会の構造を、とりわけ和泉国泉郡黒鳥村・池田下村とその周辺村々をフィールドとして、原史料(古文書など、地域における歴史的文化遺産)に基づいて明らかにし、その実態を解明することである。これまで四つの課題((1)-村の内部構造分析・(2)座の構造と村落秩序との関係の解明・(3)村落の内部構造と木綿流通構造との関係の解明・(4)村落と領主権力支配との関係の解明)を設定し、年度毎に課題に即した成果(論文)を出してきた。2年目となる本年度は、課題(1)(2)をまとめた昨年度の成果(博士論文「近世地域社会構造の研究-和泉を素材として-」)を再構成し、公表する準備を整えた。山川出版社の「山川モノグラフ・シリーズ」公募に応募し、受理され、2004年秋に刊行することが内定している。また、博士論文全体の問題意識を更に深めたものとして「地域史研究の新地平」を発表した。さらに、博士論文の一部を「高橋家系図とその形成」として発表した。その上で、課題(4)にむけて、一橋領知の上方支配の要である大坂川口役所の実態を解明し、泉州領知支配との関連を考察した「一橋領知上方支配と川口役所」を発表した。具体的には、i一橋領知川口役所は、本来蔵屋敷地として幕府より拝領した土地に設定されたこと、iiそれは泉州・播磨の各代官所を統合する形をとったこと、iii常駐する役人も10人前後と少数であったことを解明し、他の蔵屋敷のあり方と比較する素材を提供した。また、iv従来、支配の実現を補完する存在として、「御用」請負人である用聞(郷宿)・用達が注目されてきたが、本研究では、郷宿に加えて蔵元をとりあげ、多くの「御用」請負人の展開の中で支配のあり方を考察するという方向性を提起した。また、課題(3)にむけて、泉州在方に展開する木綿仲買仲間関係の史料を収集し、堺・大坂における木綿問屋・仲買関係史料を分析することも始めた。
