本年度は、金箔ガラスに関して1)技術的復元研究、2)資料収集・実見調査、を行った。1については、ガラスの研究者と作家とが共同で古代ガラス技法の解明を試みる、岡山市立オリエント美術館・倉敷芸術科学大学開催の古代ガラス研究会に参加し、ヘレニズム時代〜ローマ初期の金箔を用いたガラス(ゴールド・バンド・ガラス)について発表した。海外でも未だ技法が解明されていないこのガラスについて、作家側からはミホ・ミュージアム所蔵品の実見調査に基づく様々な復元方法が提示され、金箔を用いたガラスの発展について興味深い示唆が得られた(この研究会報告については、日本ガラス工芸学会、平成16年度のニューズレター掲載)。2については、イタリアのヴァチカン博物館においてキリスト教聖人像を有する金箔ガラス8点について、学芸員Unberto Utro氏の助力により実見調査を行い、それらのカラー写真の論文掲載許可も得た(アグネス像を有する金箔ガラスについては、地中海学会の10月の月例会で発表)。またクロアチアでは、ザダール考古学博物館のSmiljan Gluscevic教授の助力により、同市のネクロポリスから正規の学術調査によって出土したローマ・ガラスの所蔵調査を行った(本年度予定していた東京理科大学の中井泉教授によるガラス分析、および金箔ガラス2点の実見調査については平成17年6月に延期)。カット・ガラスに関しては、資料の追跡調査、すなわちローマ時代の港湾都市プテオリの景観を刻んだカット・ガラス6点のうち、オスティア出土の1点の所蔵調査を行った。その結果、オスティア考古学博物館Elizabeth Jane Shepherd氏の助力により、1990年代にもガラス史家De Tommaso氏が追跡調査をしたが、未だ所蔵先不明であることが判明した(なお、予定していたイギリスでの実見調査は来年度以降に延期、このプテオリのカット・ガラスについては『古代文化』、2005年57号に発表)。
