今年度も外国旅費は、北宋前後期の建築及び壁画遺構が数多く残る山西省に調査重点を絞り再度充当した。研究の最重点と位置付ける開化寺においては昨年度に調書をとった碑文類を対校するとともに、大愚禅師石塔等の未調査遺構を調査した。これらから開化寺創建年代も明らかになると考える。従来漫然と北斉創建とされていたが、これは碑文の曲解であり、唐末創建と考えられる。その他、調査箇所は複数箇所に及ぶが、特に北宋の先駆である五代期の平順県大雲院弥陀殿壁画に関しては、修復により逆に破壊が進んだ点が旧報告書から判明したので、知見と併せて報告論文を公開する予定である。今年度計画の重点とした仁和寺孔雀明王画像に関しては、従来北宋初期作で同時期に日本に将来されたとする見解もあったが、北宋末期以降の様式であることが検討の結果判明した。そこで、日本への伝来時期が問題となるが、11世紀後半から12世紀後半までの、当時の日本の対外交渉は、航海技術の制約などから宋との直接的交流は微弱で高麗ルートが主流であり、この為、高麗を媒介として遼文化の混入が日本に起こった。この時期の日本における「唐」美術とは、宋そのままではないのである。とすると、正統的宋様式である仁和寺像の日本への伝来は12世紀後半以降の可能性が高いことを視野に含める必要性があることになる。この日本の対外交渉という観点を通じた大陸美術の影響問題の考察については(これは日本遺品を通じて見た中国様式の研究である)、研究計画には含めていなかったが、阿弥陀五十二菩薩像がよいモデルケースになることが分かったので、これについても研究を行った。これらは、文献研究を主体とする。
