2001年4月にウラジオストックにおいて予備調査を経た、2002年3月にサンクト・ペテルブルグ、ウラジオストック、レーニングラード州(農村地域を含む)、ボロネジにおいて本調査を実施した。サンクト・ペテルブルグ市で500人、レーニングラード州400人、ポロネジ州300人、ウラジオストック300人に対して無作為抽出法により1994年アンケートに修正を加えて意識調査を実施した。サンクト・ペテルブルグ、レーニングラード州の調査は、サンクト・ペテルブルグ大学社会学部の協力を得て、ウラジオストックでは、極東大学世論調査センターの、そしてボロネジでは、雇用センターの協力を得て、意識調査を実施した。本報告書では、まず、第1章で、調査方法と調査地について説明をしている。そして、第2章では、2002年調査を性別、世代別、学歴別に分析し考察している。第3章では、1994年調査と2002年調査を比較、分析している。第4章では、地域ごとに性別、世代別、学歴別に分析、考察している。そして、最後に全体の調査結果の傾向をまとめている。1994年調査との比較の中で、いくつかの特徴が明らかになっている。まず、経済システム選択では、94年には回答項目になかった「混合経済」が付け加わったため、これを選択する人が急増している。恐らく、以前に市場経済を選択していた人も経済改革を通して、「混合経済」に惹かれているのかもしれない。ソ連邦崩壊についてはこれを否定的に見る人が多い傾向は94年調査と同じであるが、「分からない」を選択する人も増えている。ロシアやロシア人についての質問では、94年に比べて、ある種愛国的な気持ちが高まっている。それは、「ロシアに生まれて良かったか」などの項目に顕著に表れている。また、「ロシアにおける外国製品の普及」や「ロシアでの外国人の土地所有問題」に関しても以前に比べて、反対の意を唱える人が増えている。このような調査結果はロシアで社会問題になっている若者の過激な愛国主義者の出現とも大きく関係していると思われる。また、失業して職業安定所を訪ねる人も増加しており、混乱の時期は過ぎ去り、制度が整いつつあることを示しているようである。大きな傾向は1994年調査と変わっていないが、既に述べたような点は動きが顕著である。また、属性別には、性別、世代別には回答傾向に特徴が見られるが、学歴別には大きな特徴は見られない。地域差もそれほど大きくはない。今後、さらに数年後に継続調査を行うことが必要である。
