本年度は、第一次世界大戦後のアルザスにおける、フランスの性急な同化政策の背景を探り、さらにこの同化政策に対する反応を、自治主義運動の展開から考察すると同時に、一般の人々の立場からも見ることを試みた。まず普仏戦争から第一次世界大戦までのフランスの初等教育の中での、アルザスの位置について、当時の歴史教科書を辿って考察し、その成果をまとめた(「フランスのナショナル・アイデンティティとアルザス・ロレーヌ」)普仏戦争後に義務化初等教育は、この「失われた領土/兄弟」を取り戻すことを「義務」として教え込むものであった。また教科書の中では現実とは異なった「フランスを愛し続けるアルザス」というイメージが繰り返し描きだされ、それが戦後の同化政策をめぐる混乱の一因となったことが推察される。しかし、この同化政策への抵抗から展開されたアルザス自治主義運動についても、それが一般の人々の意識や願望を全面的に体現していたとは言えないことが、本年度の研究から見えてきた。戦前、ドイツ下での自治主義運動に関わった小学校教師の日記を読み解く中で、「平和でさえあれば、フランスであろうとドイツであろうとかまわない」という一般のアルザス人の願いが、自治主義運動から離れていく様子が浮かび上がってきたのである(アルザスのある家族史))。この問題については、自治主義運動の活動家の側からも、研究をまとめ、比較、検討する予定である。
