【平成14年度研究報告】c-kit突然変異動物の一つであるWsRC-Ws/WsラットおよびコントロールとしてWsRCラットを用い、意識下慢性実験を行った。胃と小腸の漿膜側に慢性的にフォーストランスデューサーを縫着し、WsRC-Ws/WsラットおよびWsRCラットの空腹期における伝播性消化管運動の違いを明らかにした。結果は、WsRC-Ws/Wsラットにおいては、明らかに規則正しい空腹期伝播性消化管運動の異常が存在していた。すなわち、本来規則正しいリズムを持った収縮波群が、不規則で疎な収縮波群を形成していた。注目すべき事実として、弛緩するphase、リズムも不規則であったことがあげられる。カハール介在細胞(ICC)が消化管運動のペースメーカー細胞である事は、周知の事実となっているが、我々の実験結果は、消化管のペーシングが、周囲の協調した収縮弛緩運動のための、情報伝達の歩調取りとして機能していることを示唆している。つまり、これまでは規則正しい収縮リズムの歩調取りという視点でのみ、報告される事の多かったカハール介在細胞の機能が、実はIntrinsic Primary Afferent Neuron全体の興奮伝達経路の歩調取りを行い、協調した運動、言い換えれば隣り合う部位の収縮と弛緩を規則正しく同時に発生させ、消化管内容物のスムースな移動を実現するために極めて重要な役割を果たしていると言うことができよう。
