第29回国際動物遺伝学会議の日本開催が国際動物遺伝学会によって決められている。そこで、日本受け入れのための準備を行うべく、運営委員会を組織し、準備に入っている。日本受け入れ団体は、日本動物遺伝育種学会である。当面の課題は、第29回国際動物遺伝学会議を日本学術会議に共催の国際会議として認知してもらうことで、それに向けて、準備を行っている。その間に、日本畜産学会、日本家禽学会、日本獣医、日本水産学会、育種学会、日本遺伝学会等の後援を取り付けた。日本学術会議との共同主催が内定されたなら、より完全な形の組織委員会を組織し、国際会議の受け入れにあたる。また、その過程で、日本開催における基本的な姿勢を示すため、2001年ドイツのゲッチンゲンを訪れ、国際動物遺伝学会議の理事会で、日本での準備状況を説明した。また、本年(2002年度)はゲッチンゲンで第28回国際動物遺伝学会議が開催されるので、その際に開催される理事会あるいは総会において日本への招待の演説を行うべく準備をすすめている。
