Isotopic information plays an increasing role for the investigation of processes in chemistry, biology, medicine, geology and environmental sciences. A simultaneously obtain information about relevant trace elements in the samples under investigation often improves the information content dramatically. The system we apply for in collaboration with 4 partners is a combination of a Multicollector-ICP-MS and a TripleQuad-ICP-MS which allows for a simultaneous analysis of isotope ratios and concentrations of trace elements after elimination of interferences. Samples will be introduced either as liquids (nebulizer, chromatography unit) or solids (laser ablation, ETV-coupling). During the next years we will focus on the following topics: (a) precise quantification of element concentrations in solid materials with  1 % uncertainty by isotope dilution analysis / Preparation of reference materials wirh different elements for a spatially resolved analysis on the micro- and nanoscale (fields of application:: plant and animal tissues, new materials) (b) Isotope and trace element determination in pure substances (W, C, Si) after coupling with ETV ( method developments) (c) Investigation of bacteriologically/enzymatically regulated processes during bioleaching (Isotopic systems: S, Fe, Re, Os and other PGE) (d) Establishing of routine methods for the determination of Hf-Isotopy in Magmatits, Sr-Isotopy in Carbonatits, the sediment delivery area analysis (main and trace elements with REE), as well as the investigation of single minerals (Apatite, Calcite, Mica, Feldspar, Garnet, Rutile, Titanite, Zircon) (mineral chemistry and isotopy -B, Li, Lu-Hf, Pb, Rb-Sr, U-Pb) (e) Isotope and trace element analysis in solutions with high salt concentrations (application fields mining, battery production and recycling, environmental sciences) (Isotopy systems: B, Li, S, Mg) for the investigation of the provenance of raw materials, the influence of processing parameters during production and recycling, as well as the extension of the thermodynamic datenbase THEREDA, which is applied for calculations of ongoing or potential dissolution and crystallization processes in salt formations. (f) Investigation of implant materials, degradation-, transport- and storage processes in organisms with spatially resoved analysis and after application of isotopically enriched starting materials (resorbable implant alloys based on Fe and Mg; Isotopy systems: Mg, Fe, Gd, Nd, Ag)
