项目摘要

平成14年度におこなった国家的軍事儀礼の分析につづき、15年度は知識人・軍人・一般民衆の軍隊観を詩文集・石刻史料(墓誌類)・小説等から抽出する作業を進めてきた。そしてそれを通じ、武力そのものへの忌避・敬遠、あるいは軍務に就く近親者に対するいたわり・憐憫などをうかがわせる記録が、唐代を通じて広範に残されていることを確認できた。ただ、収集した史料には、どちらかというと超時代的な武力忌避感情が前面に出る傾向にあり、何らかの時代的特質、すなわち府兵制から募兵制へと軍制が改変されるなかで時人の軍隊観がこのように変化した、というような質的差異は必ずしも分明ではないことも、一方ではみとめられた。したがって今後は史料収集を継続しておこないつつ、新たな展開も模索して、最終的には一定の成果に結びつけていけるよう、目下取り組んでいる。そしてその一つの試みとして、募兵制の揺藍期に国家の軍事を掌握した宦官の存在に着目し、調査を進めている。唐代後期における彼らの専権が禁軍の掌握に基礎づけられたことはよく知られているが、宋人の士大夫論理で編まれた既存の唐代史料に彼らの肉声はほとんど残されなかった。しかし近年続々と公刊された唐代石刻類には彼らの墓誌も数多く残されており、彼らが士大夫と全く同じように「遺族」の手で葬祭され、墓誌銘を贈られていたことが判明する。実権(武力)を持ちながらも士大夫文化を躍起になって模倣する宦官。そして自らこそ中華文明の正嫡と自負しながらも宦官の威光に追従する士大夫。両者のアンビヴァレンスのなかに軍事を措定することで、募兵制と軍事蔑視の関連に迫ることはできるのではないか、との見通しを持って現在論考の作成に取り組んでいるところである。
