本年は、主にアメリカでの自己概念に関する質問紙調査および聞き取り調査のデータ収集を中心に活動を行った。アメリカでの活動については4-6月にわたり、シカゴはイリノイ大学アーバナ・シャンペーン校、ロサンゼルスはカリフォルニア大学(UCLA),カリフォルニア州立大学ノースリッジ校において学生に質問紙調査及びインタビューを行った。さらに、シカゴ地区の私立小学校2校、ロサンゼルス地区の私立小学校1校、公立小学校2校で児童への質問紙調査と担任へのインタビューを行った。8月、平成17年2月にも短期にアメリカを訪問して追加でデータ収集を行い、データ収集数は大学が約400名、小学校が約300名であった。集めたデータに関しては日本とアメリカをまとめて入力し、データ分析をしている段階である。学会発表に関しては、7月のドイツで自己研究学会の国際総会で、日本の小学生の自己概念について、自らの博士論文での調査を基に発表した。さらに、日本教育心理学会において、去年収集した日本の大学生のデータを基に、大学生の自己イメージ・自己概念について発表した。主に聞き取り調査の結果についてであったが、日米の大学生の自己のとらえ方の違いや、何が肯定的な自己概念に必要なのかを学生の視点から見ることができ、また児童期の自己イメージも併せて聞くことにより、児童期と青年期の自己イメージの形成要因の違いについても明らかにすることができた。肯定的な自己概念を育むための要因については、自分自身を認め、受容することの重要性、自信を持つこと、円満な友人関係・家族関係の構築、得意分野の発掘・向上などの回答があげられ、日米とも同じような傾向が見られた。
