研究分担者が2003年7月1日に来日したのち,代表者の所有する日本人双生児の12項目の身体測定値と,対照とする一般児の身長,体重,胸囲,座高をコンピュータに入力し,データベースを完成した.いずれも6歳から17歳まで毎年一回定期的に測定した,縦断資料である.双生児は東京大学教育学部付属の中学高等学校の生徒で,一般児はその同級生である.彼らは共に1960年から1973年の間に生まれている.このデータベースから本年は一卵性双生児の身長データ取り上げ,欠損値のある個体を削除した男177名,女184名について,個々の子どもの成長曲線と成長の速度曲線を描き,BTT法を用いて生物学的変数を求めた.現在それらの変数を入力して,詳しい解析を進行している.これまでに,一卵性双生児は,一般児に較べ身長が低く,成長ピークの時期が遅く,ピークの山(強度)が低いことが分かった.この結果は,2004年7月にフィレンツェで開催される国際成長学会議International Congress of Auxologyで発表する予定である.次のステップとしては,二卵性双生児についても同じ解析を行い,一卵性双生児の結果と比較し,両者の表現型の差異を解析し,身長成長に及ぼす遺伝の影響と環境の影響を明らかにすることを目指す.来日後に始めたこの研究と並行して,研究代表者がかつて三次元スプライン解析し,発表した東京の少女の身長縦断データを分担者が開発したAli-Ohtsuki式に適用し,同式を改良して,最終身長(成人身長)の推定式を作成した.この成果がAnthropological Scienceに受理され,現在印刷中である.この他に投稿中の論文が国際誌に1篇,分担者の勤務先大学の紀要に4篇ある.
