中世を通して抗争は武力によって勝敗が決められたが、プロパガンダによる争いの重要性がエンリケ4世の王位継承抗争から決定的なものとなる。これは無論急な変化ではなく、知識と経験を含めた情報、交渉術など政治闘争の道具立てが、中世後期を通して複雑化したことによって、量的蓄積による質的転化が顕在化した事件であるといえる。昨年度は、スペイン本国において、エンリケ4世期の事件史、そして中世プロパガンダ研究のこれまでの蓄積をふまえた上で、王位継承戦争にみられる、王や貴族による、これまでプロパガンダとして大まかに括られてきたディスクールを「嘆願」としてかたちを与え、主にカスティーリャ国内における発信者、媒体、受容者、そしてその影響を辿ることによって、その具体的役割をまとめ、博士号を授与された。今年度は、王や貴族による「嘆願・懇願」を通して、プロパガンダの役割を具体的に追っていくとともに、そのモチベーション、流布の経路、引き起こされる結果などから、王と貴族、宮廷政治と都市、カスティージャと西欧諸国との関係のあり方を具体的に見ていこうと試みた。今年度の研究の実施状況であるが、まず5月の西洋史学会大会において、主にカスティーリャ国内における王位継承戦争における「嘆願」の事件史的な流れにおける反応と役割をまとめて報告した。7月には、スペインのアビラにおいて、関連史料収集と、史料読解に必要な古文書学上級コースを修了し、史料分析に専念した。そして、その成果を10月のスペイン史学会大会において、中世末期の「嘆願」が王と貴族の関係のどのような発展段階にあるのか、そしてその後の絶対王政期の王と貴族の儀礼化、象徴化に繋がっていくのかという視点でまとめ、報告した。また、11月には、スペインにおける国際学会において、「嘆願」が曖昧模糊とした国際関係をどのように秩序付けていったかに着目した報告を行った。この報告は来年『イサベル女王とその時代』において、刊行される。今後、上記の研究を踏まえて、初期中世からみられる「嘆願」と後期中世のそれを比較して、政治構造に乗りかかった文化の流布の発展と仕組み、そして政治と思想の相関関係を、抵抗権と「嘆願」を道具として用いるディスクールの関係に着目することにより明らかにしていきたい。
