A study of the Design and the Construction of the Full Text Coordinated Retrieval System of Japanese Historical Resources using Web

The aim of this research was to promote study on history (such as to generate new interpretation and analysis of historical materials) by means of developing the interactive retrieval system designed for complete English and Japanese texts, focusing on the document structure and descriptive methods of Japanese classical texts. The texts we used are Japanese Kojiki, Nihon shoki, Engi shiki, Izumo fudoki and so on. We further digitized 25 volumes of Japanese classical texts to conduct interactive search within and across these English/Japanese texts and to browse and retrieve the texts. We marked the logic structure and XML Schema of the classical texts, combined them with these texts using XML, saved them in various document files in Open Text, and developed the interface for conducting speedy and effective search from the web browser.
