项目摘要

昨年度より調査を開始したアメリカの映画前史および初期映画期(1894年-1900年代初頭)におけるピープショーの露出症的構造分析の成果の一部を、「覗き見の媒体<キネトスコープ>の一考察」(『比較文化研究』第68号、2005年7月)において発表した。そこでは初期映画にみられる露出症的な側面は、すでに映画前史や同時代の見世物にみられるような見る者を覗き見に誘うような露出症的性質を継承していることを明らかにした。映画前史や同時代の見世物に見られた露出症的性質を引き継いだアメリカの初期映画ではあったが、初期映画の露出症的性質は、映画が映画独自のスタイルを築きあげてゆく上でも重要な役割を担っていたことを、「覗き見の視覚文化-初期映画における露出症的構造の一考察」(フェティシズムの文化・社会的研究会、2005年6月20日)において指摘した。そしてアメリカにおける初期映画の露出症的構造を具体的に解明するため、映画の被写体となった人物について、初期映画に加え、当時の雑誌、新聞、写真などの一次資料を用いて調査を行った。その被写体は、未だスターシステムが存在していなかったといわれる初期映画期において、異様なまでに観客を魅了した人物であった。被写体が観客を魅了したのは、その特異な身体にあったことに注目し、初期映画における身体の表象を分析することによって、初期映画の露出症的構造を解明しようとした。その際に、映画前史および初期映画期の写真における身体表象と初期映画のそれとの比較も行いながら、初期映画の露出症的構造を明らかにした。その成果を「キネトスコープ・フィルムにおける身体の表象」(第5回キネマ倶楽部国際会議研究発表会2005年6月24日)、「初期映画における身体表象-スター、ユージン・サンドゥの特異な身体」(第1回日本映画学会全国大会、2005年12月4日)において順次発表した。また初期映画の露出症的構造と初期映画の受容についての論考、および初期映画期に登場した家庭用映写機についての論考を、橋爪紳也他との共著『にっぽん電化史』(日本電気協会新聞部、2005年7月)において発表した。これらの論考では、アメリカにおける初期映画の露出症的な性質を考察した上で、日本における初期映画はいかなるものであり、日本の初期映画がいかにして観客を魅了したのかを示した。
