本研究の目的は、8-9世紀の中央アジアにおける一大帝国であった古代チベット帝国が、実際にはどのような制度を持つ国家であったのかを、その徴税制度、土地制度を解明することにより明らかにすることである。本年度は、海外調査(中国、青海省)を一度行った。現地の地理的状況を調査することが主な目的であった。ジェクンド(玉樹)、ティカ(貴徳)、西寧、都蘭を調査することができたが、特にジェクンド(玉樹)付近では古代チベット帝国時代の摩崖碑、岩画を実物調査することが、また都蘭では古代チベット時代の墳墓およびその地理的状況を調査することができた。また本年度は今まで得られた知見をまとめ、発表することに眼目を置いた。次にあげるのは主な成果である。1.9月にボンで行われた第11回国際チベット学セミナーにてチベット語会計文書P.t.1128とその中に現れるチベットの会計方式について、口頭発表する機会を得た。この文書によって、チベットでは前二年分の収支を三年目に決算するという方法がとられたことが判明した。発表の詳細についてはセミナーの論文集にて英語論文として出版予定である。2.以前より研究を進めていたキャ制について、現時点での知見をまとめ、論文として発表することができた。キャ制とはチベットの徴税・土地制度であるが、従来はその存在が全く知られていなかった。文書史料によって敦煌地方のみならず中央チベットにても施行されていたことが実証され、当時のチベット全土に敷かれていたことを推測させる。そしてこの制度は848年以降敦煌およびその周辺地域を支配した漢人政権、帰義軍政権の徴税制度にも大きな影響を与えていたのである。3.大英図書館所蔵の敦煌出土チベット語文書三断片が元来は一枚の人名リストであり、「仏事供養」を目的とした徴税リストであったことを明らかにすることができ、論文として発表した。
