项目摘要

本研究では、知覚過程におけるメタ情報(情報に対する情報)取得の年齢による差異を検討してきた。本年度は、注意とメタ情報利用の相互作用に焦点を当てた視覚実験を実施した。実験ではRSVP(Rapid Serial Visual Presentation)課題を用いた。擬似ランダム化された数十の数値(二つのターゲットを含む)が、一つずつ、約100ミリ秒の間隔で提示される。輝度で定義された一番目のターゲットと二番目のターゲットの時間間隔が200〜500ミリ秒のとき、二番目のターゲットの同定が著しく阻害されることが知られている(Attentional Blink;注意機能の低下)。本研究では、この注意機能の低下時に、課題に無関連な、あるいは関連する情報を周辺に提示し、課題遂行への影響を検討した。高齢者群(平均年齢67.6歳)と若年者群(平均年齢28.6歳)からデータを取得した。主な成果は以下の通りである。注意機能の低下時でも、周辺情報に対する強制的な注意捕捉が生じることが示された。この効果は両群に共通だが、その方向性が異なる。若年者群では、課題と情報が無関連であれば、課題への注意機能が効果的に回復することが示された。課題に関連の高い情報を提示した場合には、この効果は生じなかった。周辺の情報は強制的に注意を捕捉するが、「無関係である」というメタ情報の認知が直ちに注意の解放に寄与し、その結果、課題遂行にポジティブな影響を与えた可能性がある。一方、高齢者群では、周辺情報が課題と無関連であっても、課題遂行が妨害される結果となった。本来無関連であるはずの情報が処理領域に進入し、その結果課題成績の低下を招いたのではないかと考察される。同じ情報であっても、年齢によりその情報の活用が異なること、またその差異は知覚レベルで生じている可能性が示された。
