项目摘要

これまでの研究成果を学会誌に英語および日本語論文を投稿した(Japanese Journal of Religious Studiesおよび『近代仏教』)。昨年度末に東京にて開催された国際宗教学宗教史会議世界犬会(IAHR)における研究発表をもとに、内容をさらに発展させたものである(ただし、日本語雑誌の発行は2006年3月以降となる)。ほかにPacific World、The Eastern Buddhist編集部からも原稿依頼があったが、上記2点の論文執筆に加えてさらに2件の研究会議を基にした共著研究書の執筆負担が重なり(カリフォルニア大学における在米日系仏教徒の思想と活動に関する研究会議と、ハワイ大学における大戦間期ハワイの国際主義と日系人の役割に関する研究会議)、今年度中には果たせなかった。これら2誌への投稿は、来年度に実現したい。なお執筆分担した共著の研究書は、現在アメリカの大学出版会から出版するべく、それぞれ編集作業に入っており、来年度に公刊される予定である。夏期休暇中、3週間に及ぶ勤務校の学生引率業務が重なったため、10月にインドで開催された仏教者国際連帯会議(INEB)への参加や必要なインタビュー調査ができなかったことが悔やまれる。しかし2006年1月〜3月までデューク大学宗教学部で、客員教授としてTransnational Buddhismのクラスを担当するため、アメリカにおけるエンゲージド・ブッディズム関係資料の収集および研究者との交流を図ることに切り替えたことで、研究上のマイナス面は解消されたといえる。また12月にビルマ人僧侶が来日し、INEBメンバーの日本人僧侶とともに開催した講演会において、情報交換や教示を得ることができ、さらにロサンゼルス在住のスリランカ僧侶との連絡を取り続けた事もあって、上座部仏教徒の活動および仏教思想を考える上で多くの示唆を得た。

The research results were published in English and Japanese (Japanese Journal of Religious Studies and Modern Education). At the end of last year, the International Conference on the History of Religion (IAHR) was held in Tokyo. Pacific World, The Eastern Buddhist Editorial Department (Research Conference on the Relationship between the Thoughts and Activities of Japanese Catholics in China, Research Conference on the Relationship between Internationalism and Japanese Civil War in China), and Research Conference on the Relationship between Chinese Catholics and Japanese Civil War in China. The 2nd Annual Report is now available. The author of the research book is now published at the University Press, and the editor is scheduled to publish it in the coming year. During the summer holidays, during the 3-week period and at least in the service school, the student recruitment business is very important, and in October, the International Association of Teachers (INEB) is held, and participants participate in the necessary research. January to March, 2006 Visiting Professor, Department of Religious Studies, University of Hong Kong, responsible for the collection and exchange of data on Transnational Buddhism, research and development. In December, the Japanese monks held a seminar to exchange information and teach, and the monks were contacted by the Theravada believers. The activities of the Theravada believers and the teaching ideas were examined.
