昨年度は特許のデータを用いた分析を行ったが,それらの位置づけについて不十分な点が残った。そのため本年度は主として,産業地理学,地域政策論,技術研究,都市論など様々な分野の成果,議論を整理し,「イノベーションの地理学」に向けての研究課題を展望した。具体的には,それらの研究群を研究手法や枠組みによって整理した後,イノベーションを産業集積論や都市論との関連から検討した。議論は,以下の三点に要約される。第一に,イノベーションの地理的考察は,特許や論文の量,引用,共著関係などの指標を用いて知識のスピルオーバーや協力的ネットワークを捉える定量的方法から,質問票調査や聞き取り調査による質的方法まで様々な手法で行われており,それぞれの長所と短所を認識し多角的な考察が必要である。第二に,セクター・イノベーション・システム論,地域のイノベーション・システム論,「生産の世界」論などを検討し,制度や組織のあり方,技術の性質,距離や領域など地理的要素という3要素の相互依存的関係を認識した上で説明のフレームワークを構築し,かつそれらを実証研究によって検証することの意義を指摘した。特に,技術の性質という視点は産業地理学におけるイノベーション論ではこれまで重視されてこなかった傾向にあり,考慮すべき要素であろう。第三に,産業集積論や都市の創造性についての議論を検討し,都市や集積をイノベーションの文脈で考える際には,空間的・社会的・文化的な近接性だけでなく,内部の多様性と外部との結合性という要素にも焦点を当てる必要性を指摘した。
