项目摘要

現在,地理学や隣接分野において製造業のイノベーションについて注目が集まっており,特に企業間ネットワークとイノベーションとの関連を地理的側面から考察する必要性が主張されている。しかし,こうしたイノベーションの重要性はこれまで指摘されながら研究の対象とはなりにくい傾向にあった。それはイノベーションが客観的に捉えにくく,定量的に分析しにくいためである。そこで,本研究ではイノベーションを特許のデータを用いて定量的に把握し分析することを試みた。特に,企業間から生じたイノベーションを特定するために,特許データのなかで複数の企業が共同出願しているデータを抽出し,それらの企業間の地理的距離を地理情報システム(GIS)により計測した。さらに,企業間の距離と企業の属性との関係について分析を行った。その結果,企業間の距離は,企業規模,資本・系列関係の有無,創業からの年数などと相関関係が存在することを見いだした。具体的には,企業の規模が大きい場合,企業間に資本・系列関係の存在しない場合,創業からの年数の多い場合などにおいて企業間の距離は離れており,小規模で創業からの年数の小さい場合,企業間の結びつきの強い場合には両者は地理的に近接している傾向にあるという結論が得られた。以上のように,特許データはその限界に注意さえすれば,様々なイノベーションを客観的に捉えられるという意味で貴重な資料であり,今後の経済地理学研究において有用であることが示された。
