小児がん患児の同胞は、長い闘病生活およびターミナル期を通じて周囲の大人たちが患児の療養に専念することで、同胞への目が注がれにくく、取り残されがちとなる。さらに、患児の死後も、周囲の大人たちが深い悲しみの中にいるため、同胞へのサポートは不十分となりやすく、成長過程に大きな影響を与えているといわれている。そこで本研究は、子どもを小児がんで亡くした家族の会の中で、同胞の会を開催し、その参加者等に面接を行うことで、小児がん患児を亡くした同胞が成長過程においてどのような想いを抱えているのかを明らかにし、その援助方法を検討することを目的とした。方法として1)小児がんで子どもを亡くした家族の会(サポートグループ)において同胞の会を開催し、2)サポートグループに参加している家族に対して、父親、母親、同胞へ個別に面接調査を行った。1)今年度は昨年度に引き続き温泉プールでの同胞の会を企画し、実施した。3ヶ年いずれの年も同胞の参加者は少なかったが、3ヶ年連続して参加した同胞もいた。同胞は同年代の学生ボランティアと交流し、自分自身が主役になれることで、居場所を感じることができたのではないかと考えられる。2)面接調査の結果から、同胞は死別後一時不登校となり、悲しみや患児に対する罪悪感を抱えながら、悲しみに沈む両親を気遣っていた。両親は同胞が家族の中で患児が存在しているように話をすることで、患児との共存感を抱いていたが、同胞は患児の話ができないと感じており、両親との間にギャップがあることが明らかとなった。以上のことから同胞の会は参加者が少なく、同胞同士の自助効果を促すことは難しかったが、同胞は自分自身が主役になれることで自尊感情が高まり、セルフエフェカシーを高めることができたのではないかと考えられ、小児がん患児を亡くした同胞への援助として同胞の会は有効であることが示唆された。
